POW x Huichica Walla Walla

On September 13th and 14th, POW attented the first Huichica Walla Walla festival. Huichica has annually taken place in both Sonoma and Hudson Valley CA (and still does), but this year was their first time branching out into the Pacific Northwest.

“Since 2010, Huichica Music Festival (pronounced wah-CHEE-ka) has provided a refreshing take on the music festival experience. A pioneer in a new breed of micro-festival, Huichica is built on the concept that wine, food, and music are best shared in beautiful, intimate settings with a warm and friendly attitude.
Each year Huichica presents a highly curated line up of artists worth knowing about and pairs them with artisan regional wines and local culinary talent. Away from the crowds, there are no bad seats at this family-friendly boutique festival. Pack a blanket, relax and blend in with the crowd of musicians, wine enthusiasts, foodies and music fans. “

This years acts at Walla Walla included Meg Baird, Marisa Anderson, Lia Ices, Madeline Kenney, The Minus 5, Howlin Rain, Titus Andronicus, Waxahatchee, Moon Duo, Fruit Bats (solo), Robyn Hitchcock, Destroyer (solo), Allah-Lahs, and Yo La Tengo. Sheena Salazar was raised in a rock n roll household- almost everything cool that she knows she learned from her dad. She spent some time playing organ and bass in bands, but stopped to pursue a career in fashion, both as a model and a designer. Sheena has always been extremely passionate about both music and fashion, particularly from the 60s era. Her enthusiasm for music as well as her connections to music scenes all over the west coast led her to joining the POW team in 2016, writing record reviews and covering shows such as Portland’s Nuggets Night. She currently splits her time between her day job at a bra company, working as a model, and writing for POW. Sheena resides in Portland, OR but she’s constantly traveling all over the west coast, and tries to find record stores, vintage shops and hip live shows wherever she goes. The only thing she digs more than music is her dog, Sue.
