LEAF deserves praise this week. Based out of Long Beach/Los Angeles with members from The Gimmicks, Crystal Antlers, and The Orphans it’s no surprise that their fuzz gaze blends the melting pot of 70s roots riffage with ripples of 90s hazy daydream noise so well. The group comprises Mark Starr on guitar & vocals, Phil Shelly on bass, Andrew King on guitar, and Brandon D Werts on drums.
Their tune ‘Outside’ from their ep ‘Nothing Seems Real’ has breathy vocals soaring over droning bass, drums splashing with energetic thrusts, and fuzzed out guitar that carves dewy morning visuals and seaside cliff drives up the California coast. They have played with likes of Dead Meadow and LSD and The Search for God.
