Steaming their noise/artpunk out of Stuttgart, Germany that grants a passage to their world of ‘SPORTS’, the band that just hit our radar goes by the name of BUZZ RODEO. The main cover art is a gold embossed Olympic athlete weightlifting in a concentric sun graphic that reminds me of Hans Solo frozen in time. Taking the album art into consideration, it brings about thoughts of surmounting obstacles to break out of a mold and reach a victorious feat.
‘Arkansas’ opens up the eleven track powerhouse of frenzied punk to carve out your ears with a hefty cyclical beat, guttural bass rumble, guitar sirens to alert your subconscious of the nature of your surroundings. Peppered with spoken word and muddled shouts of frustration within the landscape of finding yourself encapsulated by the church the band has built up with dirty boots as the track tapers off to remind you where you stand.
The time ticking theme of getting out of ones circumstances marred by thoughts that weigh heavy on the mind by realizing the call to arms highlighted in the story of an old man on ‘Sound of the Universe’ and the pressure that builds in ‘Pop’ to recognize your sphere of powerful thought to take back control. There is a push to build a new way of thinking by clearing away the vestiges of failed ideas tested in ‘Brick Lane’ using your imaginary shopping cart to grip the handle bar until you see the whites of your knuckles to ride off in new found consciousness.
This band needs to tour through the Americas soon! So request them and pick up a copy of ‘SPORTS’, off their bandcamp page:
