Lay Llamas are a Nigerian based psychedelic spaced out kraut rock band who want to bridge the gap of our world to the outer reaches of space and beyond. They were kind enough to send me an exclusive download of their “Space Jungle Mantra”AL remix. Here we have a cosmically meandering nearly eight minute instrumental voyage which starts with a pure mesh of the sounds of a quiet rainstorm and tribal influences setting a perfect stage for the rest of song. While most bands would use this beginning as a means for a giant overblown bombastic experience Lay Llamas are content with allowing us to simply enjoy that moment in slightly differing tones. Slightly building the tension that’s much more reminiscent of wading in a pool at your own leisure as opposed to being pushed in taking away your control. A truly beautiful song that truly appreciates the listener but allowing us to create imagery in ours heads while never grabbing us by the ears and force feeding our emotions. But letting us come to our own conclusions in how it makes us feel. And we thank them for that.
