For the first time, POW MAGAZINE was able to travel to Boise, Idaho and bring the Treefort 10 Music Festival to our viewers. The festival ran for five days from Wednesday through Sunday, March 23-27, 2022. This year’s festival featured over five hundred performers of all types spread over fifty venues in downtown Boise. These ranged from the main stage area to parking lots, bars, art galleries, exhibit and convention centers, museums, halls, coffee houses, restaurants, music stores, alleys and even a free city bus circulating around downtown. The performances ranged from rock bands of all genres to comedy acts, drag shows, live podcasts, art gallery reviews and classes, film reviews, storytelling, environmental discussions, tech demonstrations, singer/songwriters, yoga classes and kid performers.

The Treefort festival is in it’s tenth year and originated in 2012 and has grown from an original line-up of 137 bands. The festival’s original concept was developed and planned by founders Lori Shadro, Drew Lorana, Eric Gilbert and Megan Stoll. The idea was to showcase Boise’s evolving music and art scene and intended to feature national and regional artists along with local bands and performers. In addition, it was an opportunity to showcase the City of Boise and Idaho’s State Capital along with the contributions of Boise State University. They then brought in additional community supporters. Their one day original festival plan has now grown to a huge five day event.

It’s been said that Treefort is “the most happening festival in the nation.” There is a strong argument to support that statement. While most festivals offer a wide range of bands and perhaps food or wine, few if any feature and showcase the artists, comedians, drag and all the other concepts under the Treefort umbrella. So what is a “FORT” you may ask? A “FORT” can be any concept that falls under an artistic concept. Each fort is a concept of it’s own and includes anything from music (Musicfort, Artfort, tech-Hackfort, Food, Alefort, Comedyfort, Dragfort, Kidfort, Storyfort) to Yoga. This year’s Treefort featured thirteen separate “FORTS” with multiple different exhibits featured within each. Few if any other festivals can boast of such wide and eclectic offerings. Art was everywhere. From a full size mural of the Snake River Valley on the complete vertical side of a downtown high-rise office building to wall murals in a parking lot, alley wall murals on sides of office buildings, art gallery displays, the Alefort tent, a glass blowing studio demonstration to small, street-side electrical boxes painted in bird and animal artworks, all were appreciated and respected. There was very little if any of the graffiti one is accustomed to in city downtowns. Even the taggers respect the art!

The bands, music and performances were unmatched. With so many venues even with two people roaming around over four days, it was impossible to visit them all. POW MAGAZINE was able to provide our viewers with an assortment of live performance videos along with in-person interview videos with Los Angeles, California’s TROPA MAJICA and Portland, Oregon’s THE SUN ATOMS

The Treefort 10 Music Festival is without doubt the largest rock music festival in the Pacific Northwest. With over fifty separate venues, five hundred performers of all types and thirteen “FORTS” providing concepts for everything from art to music to yoga, there truly was something for everyone’s interest and taste. It all amounts to an overwhelming case that Boise, Idaho’s Treefort 10 Music Festival really is “The Most Happening Music Festival In The Nation.” POW MAGAZINE would like to thank the Treefort 10 Music Festival for extending the opportunity to provide coverage of the Treefort 10 Music Festival and to introduce our viewers to Boise, Idaho. POW would also like to thank TROPA MAJICA and THE SUN ATOMS for taking the time to sit down and visit with POW MAGAZINE and allow our viewers the opportunity to get to know them.
