The Next Generation of Folk at its Finest: Josh OKeefe’s Newest Album Bloomin’

Up until now, Pow Magazine has been known for our unwavering support of underground, psychedelic, garage rock music. Even so, for the last few years we have been thinking to venture out a bit and start representing the new generation of folk singers. We’ve decided here at Pow that now is the time; so here we go, let’s give some much-needed love and support to this massively underrepresented genre in the world of modern music. Given there is no better time than the present, let’s start off this new folk adventure with a review of Josh Okeefe’s newest album—Bloomin’. HANNAH YEUN’S NEWEST SINGLE: “RUNNING”

Well ladies and gents, it’s been a while since my last review, but as Aerosmith said, I’m back in the saddle again, and quite frankly I’m loving it. I couldn’t be happier to jump back in with Hannah Yeun’s newest single “Running”.  Anyone claiming to play witchy, sombre tunes with a 60’s vibe immediately captures my attention.  Hailing from NYC and now residing in the Sonoran Desert of Tucson, Arizona, Hannah Yeun never ceases to surprise us with some sultry, magnetic tunes. Ethan said he had to “Catch a train.” Apparently he had a morning meeting with that Bono guy, Paul Hewson. He said something about riding horses.  Shuffling toward the Happy Dog’s sweeping, deco bartop, I thought, “Well, this will be an early evening”. Then Blue Arrow Records’ label-mates, the Stutter steps, plugged…

Taking Trips to Make Music To Take Trips to

For some two decades, The Asteroid No. 4 has been the soundtrack to my many rustic and refined Pennsylvanian adventures: Fly fishing, camping, hiking, and the Warhol Museum. A three-hour trek from my north coast compound, the rurals and metros of Pennsylvania offer cool spots that I can bug out to. Coincidentally, the Asteroid No. 4 are trip-taking Pennsylvanian ex-pats, and, as the myth now goes, the A-4 bugs out, too. Their latest single is vintage Asteroid No. 4: humming, fuzzed-out shoegaze riffs and echoing harmonies. The lead drifts above the din, a shoegaze hallmark of psych brethren, Ride and Slowdive. Story goes that on a recent tour in Europe,…
